Looking west, directly behind the Memorial in the field, one can see the remains of Fort Ellsworth. Several points of the fort are still visible in the partial form of a diamond pattern of the earth. The name, Shuters Hill, sometimes called Shooters Hill dates back to the 1740’s and many stories surround its name. In the lower right corner of the image you can see the site of the Alexandria Archaeology Dig in progress for many years. Many interesting artifacts have been unearthed in this location.
