PORTRAIT PROGRAM Help Put Washington Back in America's Schools
He was there when most of you went to school. But today, many students don’t have his inspiring countenance to look up to. Mount Vernon and the George Washington Masonic Memorial hope to change that by distributing portraits of George Washington to schools all across America.
The portrait chosen is the Rembrandt Peale painting of Washington. It’s a striking pose of Washington in his Continental uniform. The finished size measures 24 x 36 inches, small enough to fit on most walls, and large enough to be clearly seen. Sponsorship of a single portrait is only $275.
We hope your Lodge will join us in this exciting new project to help make sure that George Washington is once again honored in every school.

Grand Lodge of the Month: The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts
May 2008 is the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts Month at the Memorial.
In 1733, Henry Price, a Boston merchant and tailor, received a charter from the Grand Lodge of England allowing him .to Constitute One or More Regular Lodge or Lodges as he shall think fit.. On July 30th of that year, Price exercised his authority and 18 Freemasons were empowered to work as a Masonic lodge. That lodge, now called St. John's, continues to meet in Boston.
On the basis of the precedence, the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts claims its establishment; 2008 marks its 275th Anniversary. It now holds the distinction of being the third oldest Grand Lodge in the world and the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. Among its numerous distinguished and honored members include Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Joseph Warren from the American Revolution. Today men like New England Patriot and Pro Football Hall of Famer John Hannah, retired Chief Justice of the Superior Court Robert L. Steadman, and former Boston Red Sox team physician Arthur M. Pappas as members. The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts represents 40,000 members and more than 235 lodges throughout the Commonwealth.
Freemasonry (or Masonry) is dedicated to the "Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God." It uses the tools and implements of ancient architectural craftsmen symbolically in a system of instruction designed to build character and moral values in its members. Its singular purpose is to make good men better. Its bonds of friendship, compassion, and brotherly love have survived even the most divisive political, military, and religious conflicts through the centuries. Freemasonry is a fraternity which encourages its members to practice the faith of their personal acceptance. Masonry teaches that each person, through self-improvement and helping others, has an obligation to make a difference for good in the world.
Freemasonry is the oldest, largest, and most widely known fraternal organization in the world. It is comprised of men who seek to become better through their association with one another and their families. The institution of Masonry is founded upon the Fatherhood of God, and the Brotherhood of Man. It teaches Morality, Brotherly love and Charity. Our teaching includes brotherhood, morality, justice, tolerance, citizenship, education and freedom of ideas, of religious choice, and of expression.

"The Rosslyn Hoax?"
Viewing Rosslyn Chapel From A New Perspective by Robert L.D. Cooper

Tell-All Book, The Rosslyn Hoax? Now Available in U.S. through Memorial
Bulk Discounts Offered!
Would you like to know the truth about Rosslyn Chapel? Since the publication of the novel "The Da Vinci Code," huge numbers of non-Masons have been asking questions and theorizing about Freemasonry and its alleged connections with the Knights Templar and Rosslyn Chapel. This book is a product of the research undertaken to answer those questions. The results will surprise a lot of people.
The author asks:
Have the public been the victims of a massive hoax?
Is it true that Rosslyn Chapel has been changed to make it Masonic?
Are the Freemasons themselves the victims of an enormous conspiracy?
Has the meaning of the Kirkwall Scroll been hijacked for a particular purpose?
Who benefits from trying to cover it all up?
Robert L. D. Cooper is the Curator of the Grand Lodge of Scotland Museum and Library in Edinburgh and is in a privileged position to know, from the inside, the truth about all the various theories regarding Rosslyn Chapel, Freemasonry, the Knights Templar and the Sinclair family. For the first time, a Freemason, pre-eminent in the field, speaks out. At last, Freemasons themselves are being asked about Freemasonry and this book provides the answers.
